CTO breakfast

February 27, 2025

Optimize cost and manufacturability of your product.

Last week, Spark was the vibrant hub of inspiration and valuable connections during the CTO breakfast. In collaboration with Hi!Delta, we welcomed professionals from various large tech companies for a morning filled with new insights and discussions.

Professor Erik Tempelman (TU Delft) led an inspiring session on the statement "Beter samenslim dan eigendom" emphasizing how positive collaboration within the supply chain can accelerate innovation.

Michel van Schie, managing partner at Spark, explored the challenges of scaling: "It is impossible to determine the right moment to scale up." He discussed the gap between small and large production series and the relevant manufacturing techniques. Interestingly, participants of different generations provided new perspectives.

Sander Havik, director of Industry at Spark, delved into the statement: "Machine builders don’t build machines; they build solutions." Where the discussion mainly focussed on the cost optimization opportunities and difficulties that arise when translating a device that was designed with a machine builders mindset – finished when it does the trick – into a device that is manufactured in 50+ a year. An interesting design and manufacturing challenge indeed!

Founder-partner Robert Barnhoorn summarized the importance of cost optimization: "We are often asked whether we can halve the cost price of an existing product. With an integrated approach, technical expertise, and our diverse team, we can often make that happen. That is true innovation." Are you a CTO looking to optimize the cost and manufacturability of your product? We’d love to think along with you!
