Kitesurfing simulator

A design as smooth as catching the perfect wave.

We worked together with KiteSim to reinvent their digital kitesurfing experience. Aiming for a design as smooth as catching the perfect wave. As a startup, KiteSim was ready to take the next step in professionalizing their business. Which meant redesigning their MVP (Minimum Viable Product), which could be improved on different levels. We focused on improving the overall Look & Feel, usability and mechanical design. Resulting in a compact, scalable and more professional and robust design.

The simulator’s arcade-inspired aesthetics complement the dynamic world of kitesurfing. We designed the arena, the player’s platform, as an inviting and immersive space that separates the player from bystanders and the outside world.

The KiteSim is used in different environments, including arcade halls, events, and kitesurfing schools. So it was crucial to make the simulator quick and easy to assemble and disassemble. For the new design we made the mechanical box as compact as possible, which simplifies setup and teardown significantly. Hidden inside the box are push and pull mechanisms, several gears and motors that are stacked closely together. This compactness required attention to heat management to ensure safety and optimal performance.

Thanks to its modular build, the KiteSim adapts seamlessly to different applications, whether it's used with VR, projection screens or TV displays.

The KiteSim’s popularity has taken it around the globe, with appearances in South Africa, Dubai, and Miami among others. To accommodate its growing demand, we made the design scalable, allowing for future expansions.
