Inside the internship of Iva, Julia and Jamil

October 30, 2024

We’re excited to introduce our 3 talented interns, Iva, Julia and Jamil. In this interview, we get to know them better.

Jamil Badloe, 25 years old, Master Integrated Product Design TU Delft

Jamil was eager to intern at a product design agency that focuses on creating impactful products, and Spark stood out to him. He had met the team several times before and felt a strong connection with both the people and the projects. What excites him most is the opportunity to explore different views across various stages and products, gaining insights from a range of perspectives. In his free time, Jamil is active in sports like CrossFit, padel, and skiing, and enjoys doing creative projects with friends.

Iva Hristova, 24 years old, Master Integrated Product Design TU Delft

Iva had previous experience working in start-ups, where she mainly focused on just one product and learned as she went. However, at Spark, she’s excited by the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, benefiting from the team's experience. The diversity in the work and the medical focus here really appealed to her. She’s eager to learn from professionals and gain deeper insights into the field. In her free time, Iva enjoys playing volleyball and painting, although she hasn’t had much time for it recently. She loves hiking and spending time in the mountains and also works as a student assistant.

Julia Binder, 24 years old, Master of Technical Medicine, an interdisciplinary joint-degree program offered by TU Delft, LUMC, and Erasmus MC

Last year, Julia was doing her clinical rotations in the hospital, but for this internship, she wanted to try something different outside of the clinical setting. She has an interest in designing things and is particularly curious about how to design medical products. This internship gives her the chance to explore that creative side while staying connected to healthcare innovation. Outside of her internship, Julia enjoys sports like surfing, windsurfing, and boxing. She also loves chilling with friends and making necklaces with beads in her spare time.

All three interns shared the same experience of being impressed by Spark’s product showcase when they first walked into the building. The environment felt so cool and inspiring, instantly getting them excited to dive into product design. They also mentioned how kind and welcoming the team was, making them feel at home from day one.

The interns are all enjoying their time at Spark so far, highlighting the fun, open environment and supportive team. Jamil appreciates how they’re given real responsibilities and the chance to contribute, while still learning a lot. Julia shared how Spark allows her the time to truly develop her skills, like learning CAD-modeling at her own pace. "I can work on technical projects, and Spark gives me the opportunity to do that. It feels very open," she said.

Iva emphasized that she’s learning more here than anywhere else, including university, which she found very theoretical and abstract. At Spark, she’s practicing the skills she wants to use in her future career, and appreciates the trust and responsibility she’s given.

Overall, Iva, Julia, and Jamil are making the most of their time at Spark, learning from experienced professionals while contributing to exciting projects. They’ve found a great balance between gaining new skills and being trusted with meaningful work. It’s been a rewarding experience for them and Spark so far, and we’re looking forward to seeing what they accomplish during the rest of their internships.
