Process Industry 4.0 made real

Two German family businesses, Samson and Krohne, joined forces in a new, innovative company for a sustainable future of the process industry: FOCUS-ON. Involved from the start, Spark helped in the co-creation process, from creating a valuable identity for the new company and its product line up to the integral technical design.

Krohne's expertise in flow metering combined with Samson's strength in valve technology resulted in the world’s first industrial fluid control valve that functions and communicates completely autonomously. This is also referred to as Industry 4.0: the IoT for the process industry.

The commitment to change and the will to keep discovering, learning and evolving, characterises the innovative mindset of FOCUS-ON. This very mindset has been the success factor in our journey. Realizing this huge innovation has been a major team effort.

Experts in the room

The in-depth expertise of the people at Samson and Krohne was key to the realization of this project. Spark designers are trained to quickly adopt new knowledge and immediately apply it in projects like this. Our prototypes made in an early project stage supported high-quality and efficient communication between the different experts, making the development process more effective.

Sustainable design

The challenging integration of proven technology, sensors and electronics within the applicable regulations has resulted in an autonomous future-proof solution for the process industry. Through a simple interface and industry-standard colour coding, the product design focuses on clear communication with the user. The new brand identity and positioning is timeless and therefore fits well with the product’s technical lifetime.
