Spider Range: Modular pump line

Modular frame design

In order to extract victims from crashed vehicles, rescue workers can use rescue equipment connected to hydraulic pumps. Holmatro is a global specialist in the development, production and sale of innovative and high quality rescue equipment. Together we have developed a line of highly modular and ergonomic pumps that fit with the Holmatro brand identity.

Holmatro’s existing product line comprises dozens of products. The transition to a modular structure is significantly reducing the number of different designs and the components necessary, leading to more cost-efficiency.

Challenge

The big challenge for us was defining the number and the main shape of the frames so that they efficiently accommodate the widest possible range of engine applications, terminal blocks and hydraulic pumps.

Characteristic design

We designed a recognisable family of three unique, iconic frames that protect the technical parts from bumps and drops. With impact resistant and lightweight plastic extrusion-blown oil and fuel tanks. Ergonomic design, overmolded plastic handles. And characteristic feet under the frames; with both an aesthetic and a vibration-damping function.

Ease of use

Among other things, we improved the portability by fitting the robust framers with various gripping options. The heavy pumps can be carried comfortably by either one or two firefighters. The pumps are easily operated from one side, so that there is the option for them to stay in the fire engine during use.
